Charcteristic Features:

Habit : Large deciduous trees, up to 25 m tall; young shoots densely tomentose.

Leaves : alternate, ovate, ovate-lanceolate or oblong, up to 25 x 12 cm, truncate or subcordate at base, acuminate at apex; grey-pubescent beneath; stipules small, grey-pubescent.

Flowers : monoecious, in axillary, globose, shortly pedunculate heads, male flowers in globose heads,. Stamen 1, peduncules 1-1.8 cm long; female flowers in globose heads, anthocarp completely united. 

Fruit : a syncarp, smooth, fleshy, irregularly lobed.

Seeds : many , oblong.

Flowering : January – April.
